The Normandy Maine Park was created in 1975 on the initiative of the Regional Council. The territory is classified by decree of the Prime Minister for ten years revewable (the next renewal is planned in 2006).

The territory covers 23 500 hectares (including 149 communes) which exend on the departments from the Orne, the Manche, the Mayenne and the Sarthe.Two areas, Basse Normandy and Les Pays de la Loire are covered.
Avrilly covers 550 hectares.
The communes of the territorial communities and others partners worked out a charter of which the goal is:
  • to guarantee spaces and quality of the landscape
  • to promote local produce
  • to promote tourism

The mission of the Park is to ensure its countryside protection, its management and its economic development. Its objective is to takes various actions and to welcome and to inform the public.

The countryside is a major asset with the richness of the orchards in particular of apple trees and pear trees. Let us not forget our pear trees in flowers, a beautiful asset of the commune, which has the tourists in raptures!
The storm of 1999 destroyd a considerable number of pear trees. As a consequence, many new tall varieties of pear trees have been planted.
